Sex determination in womb

Female infanticide

Sex determination in womb is resorted to when the Family was eager to know the ensuing fate of the Father. Whether he would be blessed with a male or female child is a big question for Indian families after marriage of their Son. Traditionally, It is the primary duty of a prospective father to perpetuate his lineage. In order to please his ancestors he has to beget male children so that his Clan multiplies.

It is one way of paying one’s debt to his Ancestors – Pitru Rina. A prospective mother in India herself gets immense satisfaction of LIFE if she knows that she is going to issue a Male child.

She enjoys that status personally.IN order to pay off one’e Debt to his Ancestors it is common practice to adopt a Male child ( who has only female children ) by reciting Vedic mantras.

Sex determination is done not to get rid of the female child. And most of the time a pregnant woman spends is in her Family of Origin.

So prenatal care is provided by her parents and grand parents, not mostly by her husband or in – laws. So where this discrimination against female child in the womb arises ? ‘The study seems to be prejudiced against the traditional Patriarchal society of mainstream India. Perhaps the study must have been conducted in such a way that end result would be the Preconceived Notions of the Researchers. Male Child is a Wish of the Family. Not simply that of a prospective father. A prospective mother would be more happy if she learns that she is going to give a Male Child.

Once born a Female Child is showered more love and affection than towards a Male child. And a Daughter is considered as ‘ Lakshmi ‘ ( Female Goddess of Wealth ). And ‘she’ is addressed as Amma ( Mother ). Till a girl child gets married she would not be scolded or thrashed as is done towards to a Male child. All this I wrote as a Male Indian. Sex determination need not lead to discrimination. IT is negative propaganda against Hindu culture. IT is one way painting Indian systems using Western Brush. A prospective mother would be more happy if she learns that she is going to give a Male Child. Once born a Female Child is showered more love and affection than towards a Male child.

‘Sex discrimination in India begins in the womb: Study’ in TOI dt 28.3.13.

it is really amazing the view points raised by the readers are side tracking the subject. the study conducted on pregnant women in india who went full lenght pregnancy and who had had abdominal ultrasound sonography. the purpose of ultra sound sonograpy is to see the developmental stages of fetus and to know any abnormalities.

it is purely scientific but nothing to do with vedic dharma or anything like that. the study revealed how female fetuses are being neglected once the sex determination test revealed that the fetus is female one. sabotaging the concept of fetus study we name it as sex determination test. as it is possible to determine the sex whether it is male or female in ultra sound or any advanced scientific study we out of curiosity ask the concerned doctor. once the truth is revealed that the famale is in the offing then the illtreatment starts. that too the research says that it is not so in all the cases .it is only a few cases. even though we are in advanced scietific age we still resort to horrendous acts like female foeticide or female infanticide. it is really a shame.

Ms Prashanti, Female infanticide or foeticide and Gender discrimination against Girl child are all to be condemned when occurred. Gender discrimination is not our National Character as it is depicted by the media. Media makes Mounts out of Mole hills for the sake of sensationalism. People who inquires for gender of the Foetus need not ask for the fact to conduct foeticide. It is the prospective mother who would be happy to know about gender of her child in her womb first. In India a prospective mother lives in her parental home till she issues a baby. Then who discriminates who ?

mr prasad i highly respect your views and your patriotic fervor is commendable. it is true the prospective mother lives in her parental home till she issues a baby but she has to live her entire life in laws home. she has to bear all affronts when she unfortunately conceives a female child. everything is budget now. now a days some parents feel it is a liability providing prenatal care to their pregnant daughter. that too the pregnant daughter has to function not according to parents instructions but according to either husband’s instructions or in laws instructions. so in india it is not improper to say sex discriminaion begins from womb.

Ms Prasanthi, I can understand your view point but all are suffering because of break down of traditional family system. Not simply a wife. Please read my letter in news item entitled, ‘Sanjay Banerjee, Maharashtra ATS DCP, commits suicide in front of wife, children’.

Certainly sir i will definitely read the letter .i thank you for sharing views
